band academy

Band Academy is an after-school club and it also runs in the school holidays, in different venues accross North Essex and Suffolk.

Music Lessons tailored to suit every need

What is Band Academy?

Band Academy provides students the opportunity to play in a band with their peers, whilst being mentored by a PGCE qualified teacher.

Students are guided through every stage that a band goes through, from rehearsals, to live performances to recording sessions.

However, unlike other music education services, every student will receive further 1 to 1 support in the form of bespoke tutorial videos and further tailored support to cater for each students learning style!

Students will work through our specially design curriculum which covers their instrument of choice, music theory, jobs in music industry as well as music from around the world.

The bands get the opportunity to plan and perform at concerts with bands from other schools.

Background

Since 2018, Potter’s Music has been providing high quality instrumental tuition in schools across North Essex and Suffolk. In 2021 we started hosting guitar group workshops. It was in these workshops that we saw how much students encourage and support each other, which has a positive impact on their progression, confidence and communication skills.

The only downside that we found regarding group lessons, was that each member of the group didn’t get as much attention from the teacher as they do with 1 to 1 style lessons.

This is what sparked the idea for Band Academy, which was launched in 2022.

Band Academy is a development from guitar workshops to full band workshops, where each band member receives further support in the form of bespoke tutorial videos and more.

Bespoke Videos

In our experience, it’s the practice between lessons that most students struggle with. In traditional 1 to 1 style lessons, students have to remember what their teacher has taught them each lesson, or they have to read lesson notes to try to recall what they covered in each lesson.

The videos that we send are designed to assist students with their practice between sessions. The videos are bespoke and the tutor will address the students by their name. This is obviously a benefit for the students, however it is also a benefit for our students’ guardians – who often want to support their child but are unable to play an instrument themselves. The videos enable Parents/Guardians to learn with their child, if they wish!

Unique Experience

Our business model of high quality group mentoring accompanied with bespoke tutorial videos and further support is something that no other music education service offers, it’s a completely unique service which is only available at Potter’s Music. All of this, for a cheaper rate than traditional 1 to 1 lessons!
